Excitement is pretty high about the 2020 season for the Indianapolis Colts. Many people believe that quarterback Philip Rivers will get a new lease on life with a better offensive line and he could very well be the missing piece needed to make a serious run at the AFC South Division title and a playoff push.

Jacoby Brissett was fine for the Colts last season. He was thrust into a pretty difficult situation when Andrew Luck retired during training camp. Brissett completed nearly 61% of his passes with a 18/6 TD/INT ratio, but “fine” isn’t really good enough in the NFL anymore. Not when Deshaun Watson and Derrick Henry reside in the division.

The Colts simply lacked explosiveness. They were 23rd in yards per play and 20th in adjusted net yards per pass attempt. Even the running game only ranked 12th in yards per carry. A big reason why is that Brissett was second on the team in rushing attempts with 56 and fourth in rushing yards.

The expectation is that the Colts will have a more potent and efficient offense with Rivers, a man that has started all 16 games in each of the last 14 seasons. Armed with solid skill position talent, a better offensive line than what he had with the Los Angeles Chargers, and a solid defense, Rivers is set up for success. That means that the Colts are also set up for success in this quarterback-driven league.

Shopping around for the best Super Bowl LV odds is paramount. Every dollar matters in the futures market because it not only dictates your win amount, but also has an impact on your hedging possibilities once the playoffs begin.

Here is a survey of the Colts’ Super Bowl LV odds from five Indiana sportsbooks:

DraftKings Sportsbook: +2500

BetRivers Sportsbook: +2500

FanDuel Sportsbook: +2400

PointsBet Sportsbook: +2200

BetMGM Sportsbook: +2000

The obvious hope, as fans and handicappers, is that the Colts lift the Lombardi Trophy for Super Bowl LV. As bettors, though, we have to consider the possibility that the Colts get to the playoffs and don’t win the Super Bowl. We can’t let that scenario happen and not make any money off of it. The better the price you get, the more you can hedge your bet by playing the other side.

Let’s say that the Colts win the AFC South at 10-6. They’ll be at home in the Wild Card Round, but might play an 11-5 Wild Card team in a game that could go either way. Holding $100 to win $2500 is a lot better than holding $100 to win $2000 when you might want to bet a couple hundred on the other team to guarantee profit.

Of course, the goal is still for the Colts to simply get there. Rivers wasn’t the only addition that the Colts made over the spring and summer. They also acquired DeForest Buckner from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for their first-round pick. Buckner will provide immediate help on the defensive line for a team that ranked 20th in Hurry%, below the league average in Pressure%, and tied for 15th in sacks.

Xavier Rhodes was a good buy-low option coming off of a lackluster season for the Minnesota Vikings.

Perhaps the most important move was re-signing Anthony Castonzo to shore up the tackle position and give the Colts what some people believe to be the best offensive line in the NFL.

Better health will simply go a long way. TY Hilton was limited to 10 games last season. Marlon Mack missed two games and star linebacker Darius Leonard missed three games. It seemed like the Colts were never at full strength last year at any point, as somebody wound up missing at a key position week in and week out.

Mack will also have a lot of help with Wisconsin Badger Jonathan Taylor now in the fold and Hilton will also have a Robin to his Batman with Michael Pittman Jr.

We don’t just have to look at things in terms of winning the Super Bowl. You can bet division futures and season win totals as well.

For example, DraftKings Sportsbook has the Colts as the +110 favorite to win the AFC South and has their season win total lined at over/under 9. FanDuel lists the win total at over/under 8.5 and a +135 price to win the AFC South.

You can even bet on individual player awards, like Philip Rivers at +6000 to win the NFL MVP at BetRivers. BetRivers. That’s an ironic name, eh? A lot of Colts fans will be betting Rivers this season for sure.

Colts fans should be exciting. They can make some money betting on this team this season and could even have a great chance to win it all when the playoffs get underway.
